59 Rivoli

59 rue de Rivoli, 75001 Paris

The 59 Rivoli began in 1999 when three artists occupied an abandoned Crédit Lyonnais building, soon joined by others who turned it into a free, open creative space.

Quickly threatened with eviction, the site was ultimately saved after Bertrand Delanoë’s election, as he decided to purchase the building and secure its artistic purpose. Following renovation work, it reopened in 2009 as an official alternative art center, hosting around thirty artists in studios and drawing tens of thousands of visitors each year.

Today, it stands as a symbol of vibrant, inclusive, and accessible creation in the heart of Paris.
